Premier Arts Collective partnered with Camp Cary’s Kids, a division of Prisma Health, to provide adolescent patients, their parents or caregivers, and siblings a time of fun, healing and respite. PAC Therapists Courtney Chandler and Jaclyn Lenz facilitated a time of Art Therapy at this weekend-long family camp for supportive care and medically-complex patients.
The adults and children broke up into two groups. Using mixed media materials and a multi-step process, adults created an art piece that connected to the 3D art piece that their child(ren) made. During the art-making process, meaningful discussion was shared about the ways the participants show their family love and know that they are supported.
A powerful moment occurred when the kids came in at the end of the group and presented their creations to the adults. Both pieces were wrapped together with yarn as one art piece. Chandler said, “It was really beautiful to see how they each individually created something personally meaningful, and then at the end, they were able to come together to reflect something even more beautiful and metaphorical.” PAC was honored to partner with Camp Cary’s Kids to facilitate this time of healing and hope.
